Montreal’s Place d’Armes is one of the 3 main squares located inside Old Montreal. (The other two are the Place d’Youville and the Place Jacques-Cartier) Place d’Armes is quite popular because it is so close to downtown Montreal. It also features some impressive and diverse architectural buildings in its surrounding area. The Place d’Armes is a very popular tourist destination that attracts crowds from early in the morning till late at night, particularly during the summer months.
calèches and street vendors
You will find flower merchants and street vendors all over this square. Place d’Armes also happens to be the departure point for the calèches (horse-drawn tours of Old Montreal). The center of the square features a monument of Paul de Chomedy, who helped defend the city of Ville-Marie against Iroquois attacks.
