Montreal’s Divers/Cité Festival is an international arts and music festival that takes place each year in the heart of downtown Montreal and Montreal’s Gay Village. It is considered to be one of Canada’s largest and most festive gay celebrations. This week-long arts and music festival features parades, wild parties, music and cultural activities celebrating sexual diversity. This annual Gay Pride Celebration attracts nearly one million people to Montreal.
Divers/Cité: Celebrating Diversity
Montreal’s Divers/Cité is a celebration of diversity and one of the biggest events in Montreal’s gay community. Many of the events of Divers/Cité are outdoors and free. Some of the art showcased in the festival includes modern dance, blues, jazz, pop, Latin, rock, world, funk, ambient, techno and electronic music concerts, drag queen performances, an outdoor film screening and a photo exhibition. The festival’s highlight, known as the Axis of Pleasure, consists of:
- the Sexgarage party – A huge dancing stage
- Mascara, La nuit des drags – the biggest drag queen event in the world.
- Cinema in the Park – A large open-air cinema
- La Grande Danse – a big open-air house event lasting 11 hours with some of the biggest international DJs names appearing.
Divers/Cité boasts the longest running, free outdoor programming of any LGBT event in the world. It’s no surprise that it is hosted in Montreal. Montreal is one of the most tolerant, open and gay-friendly cities in North America. Many of Montreal’s gay bars, gay-friendly restaurants, hotels and stores that offer special events throughout the week of Divers/Cité.
